POL S 353: The U.S. CongressMy favorite class this quarter was my Political Science class. POL S 353 was mainly a Congressional simulation. I represented the state of Kentucky as a member of the Republican party. The link above is one of pieces of original legislation I created. Passing legislation was incredibly difficult in our simulation so it is hard to imagine what real Congress is like. People became petty about rules- calling Madam Chairman other out with "Point of Order"- and brutally ripped up other's work. I learned about the politics of passing legislation. We traded votes for votes sometimes surprised the party with our voting. There are many consequences both known and unknown a bill may cause. It was very interesting seeing the points my peers came up with that I hadn't thought of. For example, on a bill regarding LGBT housing the sponsor included "marital status" as a protected class. Senator Collins wondered if this would include heterosexual couples and if people could really be penalized for wanting to sell their house to a family. My bill passed the senate floor in class with some amendments!
Snow! You can't talk about Winter Quarter 2019 without talking about the snow days! School closed because of the record snow fall. As a result, my midterms became online midterms. I was confided to my house for a while, but I can't really complain because he snow was beautiful and gave me a much needed break.

Green GreeksThis quarter I joined a new club called Green Greeks. Green Greeks works to make UW Greek Community a more sustainable place. I was on the Outreach team. We worked on finding other green organizations on campus and guest speakers. Green Greeks meets every other week on Tuesday.
HONORS 211: Final ProjectThis is my final project for my Honors class this quarter. I took Honors 211 A: “Okinawa in the Japanese Literary Imagination”. I didn't know anything about Okinawa going into this class. I learned a lot about Okinawa's history through lecture and the literature we read. My favorite story we read was "Will O' Wisp". I based this art piece off this story. I connected with this story because of the mother-child relationship. When we were asked in class who we sympathize with I immediately jumped to the fetus. I was adopted from East Asia as a baby and have struggled with this aspect of my identity throughout my life. Yuko’s difficult situation regarding her pregnancy and ambivalence to motherhood stuck a cord with me.

ASUW SenateOn March 5th, 2019 I attended the ASUW Senate meeting to show my support for OA-25-2: An Organic Act to Add Two Protected Seats to the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association. As a living community the Greek system is grossly underrepresented compared to the dorms. Obviously the original intent of protected seats was for marginalized communities, but when ASUW decided to give these to the dorms they changed this definition. I went to show my support for equal representation.
ENVIR 100This is my group poster project for my Introduction to Environmental Studies course. I registered for this course because I need NW credits and my friend was taking it, but ended up really enjoying it. It is often difficult to think positively about our planet's future. As one person I sometimes feel as though nothing I do will make a difference. Environmental studies addressed The material was complex and sometimes depressing, but things like climate change and environmental racism are important to discuss.
